Among Cypress and Sawgrass

Among Cypress and Sawgrass is a photographic series documenting my home, the Florida Everglades.

Combining photographs of the natural world with photographs of human impact - the series speaks to the importance of preservation. Traversing deep into the wetlands, I explore the different biomes dotting this landscape while also examining the industrialization causing damage to the natural environment and vital water systems. The mural in this installation is printed on adhesive paper made from recycled materials and the overlaid photographs are printed on paper made from the byproducts of green harvested sugar cane. This paper references the sugar cane industry of Florida that uses burnt cane harvesting and releases thousands of tons of harmful pollutants into the air each year.
